Farendløse Mosteri

Why this project is important?
This project will investigate the impact of different composting methods on the health of the soil, the carbon content and micro-biology.

Farendløse Mosteri is a production cooperative with fruit trees, grazing animals and a number of vegetable gardens. The farm is using regenerative principles with minimum work on the soil and a focus on increasing the soil biology and the soil’s ability of water retention as well as an overall goal of creating nutrient self-sufficiency for the soil.

Sandra’s part of the farm is a vegetable garden, cultivated after the market garden principles. This kind of farming is quite intensive and has a long growing season which means that  there is little time for the soil improvement before the winter sets in.

Access to a good source of compost, is thus crucial to ensure that the next growing season will have enough nutrients for the plants to grow.

Footprint Nordic is supporting Sandra in her efforts to create her own compost to build up the organic matter of her field, which will in addition increase the soil’s fertility, also help two related issues, namely the high workload and high cost related to using bought compost. Sandra will be trying out four different methods of soil enhancement compost methods.
